My Personal Farmers Market
In May 2007, Maryanne Hedrick opened My Personal Farmers.com on the Internet – a virtual farmers’ market located in Peekskill (Westchester County). From the convenience of their own personal computers, customers may order online and have fresh New York State products delivered to their homes, offices and businesses in Westchester, select areas of Putnam, Rockland and Orange counties, and parts of Greenwich and Stamford, Connecticut.
“It’s hard to find local food if you don’t go to the farmers’ markets,” she said. “I’m giving consumers a new way to get some of the highest quality food I’ve ever had.” Ms. Hedrick said, adding: “Buying locally means helping – literally – to preserve open space.”
Offerings vary, depending on the season, and customers are sent an e-mail update on available products each week.
All products come from farms within 150-miles of New York City, including:
- Jams and more from Beth’s Farm Kitchen of Stuyvesant Falls (Columbia County).
- Milk and yogurt from Evans Farmhouse Creamery of Norwich (Chenango County).
- Syrup and honey from Hummingbird Ranch in Staatsburg (Dutchess County).
Other participating farms include Sprout Creek Farm of Poughkeepsie (Dutchess County) and Sheldon Farms of Salem (Washington County).
Ms. Hedrick has noted. “We can’t tell you how happy we are to have established relationships with local farmers, becoming active investors in their future.” Ms. Hedrick noted. For more information, visit www.mypersonalfarmers.com or call 914-293-0701.

Toonie Moonie Organics
As parents, Kim Condon and Mary Ann Geraghty know that children do not live by organic vegetables alone. What was needed in the marketplace were certified organic confections – sweet treats loved by children of every age.
So, the two decided to fill the void by developing delicious confections that taste good, are certified organic and offer a guilt-free taste treat.
The result? In May 2007, these two friends from Stamford launched their new products – Marshmallow Crème, Organic Marshmallows and Organic Divinity – the first 100% certified organic marshmallow confections on the market. Today, their company, Toonie Moonie Organics Ltd. in Stamford (Delaware County), dedicates itself to providing NOFA (Northeast Organic Farming Association) Certified Organic sweets and confections to children of all ages. The products are also fat- and gluten-free.
Toonie Moonie’s Marshmallow Creme comes in 10 flavors including vanilla, chocolate, caramel, coconut, banana, pineapple, cherry, orange creme, lemon, and strawberry.
”By the response we’ve received, we know Toonie Moonie products have hit the sweet spot.” Ms. Condon said. For more information, visit www.tooniemoonie.com or call 888-toonie-U.

Tuthilltown Spirits
Tuthilltown Spirits in Gardiner (Ulster County) is home to New York State’s only whiskey distillery – the first whiskey made in the State since Prohibition. Legislation that took effect in 2007 created a new distilling class, the "D-1 Farm Distiller" license, that launched the rebirth of the New York tradition of agricultural craft spirits.
Ralph Erenzo and partner, Brian Lee, operate this micro-distillery in the Hudson Valley making vodka, bourbon, rye and corn whiskey. Every step in the process is done by hand – from devising recipes, grinding fruit and hauling sacks of malt to filling bottles. Their spirits are made from grains, vegetables and fruit from along the path of the Hudson River.
Tuthilltown believes in buying local. “That's my Holy Grail," Mr. Lee said, "to get a whiskey that is wonderful and unique based entirely on New York products."
Spirit of the Hudson Vodka is made from local apples, as is Heart of the Hudson Vodka. Their first batch of Hudson Baby Bourbon, released in July 2007, is made from 100% New York State corn with no additives or coloring added. Tuthilltown’s Hudson Manhattan Rye, is described as a classic rye, produced with the Manhattan cocktail in mind.
